Here we have our predictions for the NBA season ahead. The East and West conferences will be fought gallantly by all teams with the free agency period drastically changing each franchises hopes of Finals glory. Below you will find how WFC believes each conference will finish after the 82 game schedule. Additionally we have predicted who we believe will win some of the major seasonal awards from MVP to the All NBA First Team.
MVP – Joel Embiid
The MVP race will be hotly contested battle this season, however the basis of our choice rests on the fact the Giannis Anteokounmpo and Joel Embiid will battle for Eastern Conference supremacy. With them basically playing the same position it will come down to their individual team contribution for who wins the MVP. Right now, unless Lebron James and James Harden go superhuman, voter fatigue and the fact the Rockets acquired Russel Westbrook rules them out of the race. The Eastern battle will be the one that defines the MVP race. Despite Giannis holding the short odds to win again this season, Embiid will be very close to Giannis dominance and then looking statistically, Embiid may very well have the edge at seasons end. With that in mind Embiid should capture his first MVP award.
The top 5:
1. Joel Embiid
2. Giannis Anteokounmpo
3. Lebron James
4. James Harden
5. Luka Doncic
Rookie of the Year – Zion Williamson
Is there anybody else even going to be close. The young man’s hype almost has taken him to the award already. Most touted rookie since Lebron arrived.
6th Man of the Year – Lou Williams
Yet again he is the front runner. Dynamism off the bench is his forte
Points Leader – James Harden
Unless Russ tries to dominate the ball and get it away from Harden, the classy Rocket should cruise to the point’s leader title again. Having the ball in his hands for almost the whole game, jacking up as many 3’s as he does and getting to the free throw line on almost every drive to the bucket, there is no one else in his scoring league currently.
Assists Leader – Trae Young
A good player on a bad team. Trae Young will likely dictate the ball and his court vision should see him be among the leaders like he was last season. The improvement from year to year should see his stats increase, thus elevating his assists to a league high.
Rebounds Leader – Joel Embiid
Our MVP choice will govern the glass and rack up the most rebounds over the course of the campaign.
Steals Leader – Paul George
Dynamic hands last season and it is unlikely to diminish. His partnership with Kawhi will see a defensive machine form and steals is top of the agenda.
Blocks Leader – Anthony Davis
The lane has always been a great home for Davis and he is always near the apex of the blocks leaders. This year he wins it.
Free Throw % (Must have 100+ attempts) – Steph Curry
Simply the best free throw shooter going around in the league. Period.
3PT Leader – James Harden
As we mentioned before, with the amount of 3’s Harden is going to throw up he is bound to sink the most by any player. Steph Curry will be close behind but with the Warriors taking a talent deficit this season it is unlikely Curry will have as many open looks as the past. However, this could mean the exact opposite, as Curry could just start tossing 3’s every possession, but we still think Harden remains ahead over the whole season.
Turnovers Leader – Russel Westbrook
This is just a classic Westbrook award. The explosiveness he brings and the amount of possessions he will command leads straight into him being the most wasteful in possession. Only James Harden playing ridiculous Iso-Ball can prevent Russ from being the turnovers leader by limiting his time in possession.
All NBA Team – James Harden, Luca Doncic, Kawhi Leonard Lebron James, Joel Embiid
Pretty self-explanatory given the season awards and the projected team win/loss records and the players anticipated contributions towards those totals.
All NBA Defence Team – Ben Simmons, Paul George, Giannis Anteokounmpo Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid
We went with the obvious big men, the projected hot hands steals leader and Ben Simmons who when watching him play is an elite defender in all areas of the court. Simmons and Embiid’s defensive prowess could lead Philly to a possible finals tilt.
